NYCDA National Outstanding Dancer Scholarships

Each year, this prestigious honor is awarded to one male and one female dancer in each Age Division.  The award comes with a number of special gifts from our numerous sponsors, a generous cash scholarship and the opportunity to demonstrate on the NYCDA Convention Tour.  Get more details…. 

College Scholarship Auditions

University of the Arts (PA) and Marymount Manhattan College (NY) are recruiting dancers ages 16-18.  Open to dancers who have completed their Junior or Senior year of high school.  Dancers who have completed their Sophomore year are welcome to audition for the experience, space permitting.

Audition will consist of a ballet barre and contemporary choreography.

Awarded in July 2010:

• 2 dancers each received $150,000 scholarships to University of the Arts 
• 5 dancers each received $44,000 scholarships to Marymount Manhattan College

Auditions

Each summer NYCDA offers numerous Auditions and Workshops with Broadway Casting Agencies, Choreographers, and Directors at our National Summer Workshop.  These opportunities have landed countless NYCDA dancers in Broadway Shows & More!   Check out our growing list of auditions opportunities we have provided.   Each year we offer more and MORE! 

“Billy Elliot” Broadway Audition with Nora Brennan Casting:

Looking for boy dancers ages 9-13 up to 4’10” and girl dancers ages 8-12 up to 5’.  Must have strong Ballet and Tap Technique.

 “Peter Pan” Broadway Audition:

Looking for boy dancers ages 10-13.

“Come Fly Away” Broadway Audition with Kim Craven, Resident Director, and Stuart Howard Casting:

Looking for male and female dancers ages 14+.  Must have strong dance technique, partnering and tumbling skills helpful.

“Memphis Broadway” Audition Workshop with Assistant Choreographer, Edgar Godineaux:

Looking for male and female dancers ages 14+.  Must have strong dance technique, partnering and tumbling skills helpful.

“Bring It On” Audition Workshop with Andy Blankenbuehler, Director and Choreographer, and Bernard Telsey Casting:

 Looking for male and female dancers 13+

“Radio City Christmas Spectacular” Auditions:

• Seeking Girls for the role of Clara must be proficient en pointe. Must be under 4’11”.  
• Seeking Boy dancers ages 7-14 4’10” and under.
• Seeking male and female dancers 16 and above for the Rockettes and Ensemble casts of The Radio City Christmas Spectacular.

Alvin Ailey Workshop

Special Class with Associate Artistic Director, Ailey II, Troy Powell:  Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater seeks young dancers to the internationally acclaimed style, technique and heritage that is ‘Ailey.’  Male and Female Dancers ages 13+.

Complexions Contemporary Company Class

Special Class with company member Clifford Williams:  Teens & Seniors have this opportunity to experience the groundbreaking methods, styles and cultures created by Artistic Directors Desmond Richardson and Dwight Rhoden.

Ballroom Dance Workshop

Special Class with dance champion and television celebrity Tony Dovolani from the ABC hit “Dancing With The Stars”.

“Being a Dancer at Cirque du Soleil" Seminar

Come meet Talent Scout, Rick Tjia, to learn more about life at CIRQUE DU SOLEIL from a dancer’s perspective.  Get an insight from the audition process to the on-stage experience.  Embark on a journey with CIRQUE DU SOLEIL dancers, and get a sneak peek at their lives in our creative environment.

Parent's Forum with Joe

Don’t miss this favorite from the Regional Season!  All parents are invited to chat with our Executive Director, Joe Lanteri, for an hour – the topics are up for grabs but always promise to be informative and enlightening!

Injury Prevention with Elaine Winslow

This is a great opportunity to learn about how to take care of a dancer’s body.  Elaine Winslow works full-time with the Rockette’s as their trainer.  She was a Rockette herself for many years and has a Masters in Exercise Physiology from Columbia University.

Dancing in College Seminar

Dancers, Parents, and Teachers are welcome! If you didn’t catch this seminar during the Regional Season… stop in with Managing Director, Leah Brandon, for a discussion about the choices that dancers have after high school.

Vocal Performance with Marianne Challis

Work with Marianne  – NYC professional voice teacher, teaching Broadway theatre professionals, as well as pop and R&B, with students currently in productions of “The Lion King,” “Chicago,” “Mamma Mia,” and more.
