ELIGIBILITY & AUDITION REQUIREMENTS

The NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive will accept a limited enrollment of aspiring professional dancers ages 14-19. Admittance is granted by audition. All 2007-2008 Regional Outstanding Dancer Scholarship Winners, Runners-Up, and Triple-Threat Scholarship Winners, recognized at a NYCDA Regional Dance Convention, are automatically acceptedto the program. All 2008 ONSTAGE NY Title Winners and Triple Threat Winners are automatically accepted to the program. ALL dancers are required to submit a video audition/placement tape.

APPLICATION GUIDELINES

All prospective NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive students must provide the following:

  •  Completed application form
  •  Photo or headshot with a resume', if available
  •  2 letters of recommendation from dance instructors or qualified dance professionals
  •  Video tape or DVD audition (required of ALL dancers in attendance for audition/placement)
  •  Copy of Birth Certificate
  •  Non-refundable Application Fee of $25
  •  1x1" photo for identification card

All applications must be received by April 11, 2008.

VIDEO or DVD AUDITION GUIDELINES

All video tapes or DVD auditions must include the following:

  • "On camera" intro of dancer stating name, age, and all material presented on the video tape.
  • Ballet - (required) Present both a short adagio and grande allegro combination demonstrating control, line, extension, jumps and turns.
  • Jazz - (required) Present short jazz and/or lyrical combination.
  • Tap - not required but must be submitted if interested in the Tap classes.
  • Singing - not required but should be submitted. All dancers will participate in some level of Vocal Training classes. Include live vocal presentation of a Broadway uptempo and ballad.
  • Solo Performance piece is not required but may be submitted. Up to three different solos may be presented to demonstrate a variety of style - 3 minute max each.

Videotapes must be in VHS format or DVD - maximum total length of 15 minutes. DVD format must be DVD-R. All videotapes or DVDs must be clearly marked with full name and address and must include a printed index of all material presented. Videotapes/DVDs will not be returned unless accompanied by a self-addressed stamped envelope.
