Ready, Set, Dance!

A Young Dancer's First Convention Experience

What is Ready Set Dance?

For many dancers, a convention weekend becomes a highlight of their season—a chance to learn from inspiring teachers, make new friends, explore different styles, and fall even more in love with dance.

Ready Set Dance was created to give our youngest dancers the opportunity to experience that excitement in a program designed just for them.

Open to dancers ages 5–7, Ready Set Dance is a two-day introduction to the convention world, featuring classes in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, and Hip Hop. Throughout the weekend, dancers are encouraged to explore, learn, and build confidence in a fun, supportive environment created specifically for their age group.

At this stage, young dancers are naturally curious and eager to try new things. Ready Set Dance introduces them to new teachers, new styles, and new experiences while helping them develop important skills both inside and outside the studio. As they move through classes, dancers learn to listen, focus, adapt, and work alongside peers from different studios and communities.

Just as importantly, they discover that dance is about more than technique. It's about creativity, self-expression, friendship, and the joy of learning something new.

The weekend concludes with a special on-stage performance where dancers have the opportunity to share what they've learned with family and friends. Every participant receives a certificate and souvenir to commemorate the experience and celebrate their accomplishments.

For some dancers, Ready Set Dance is their very first convention. For others, it's the beginning of a journey that will continue for years to come.

We can't wait to welcome our newest dancers to the NYCDA family.
