The NYC Dance Alliance Winter Junior Intensive is a focused training session for the younger dancer. The mission of the Junior Intensive is to offer a four day intimate learning/growth opportunity that introduces the dancers to our successful NYCDA Summer Dance Intensive format for older dancers, taking advantage of the dynamic diversity of NYC dance.

This program is presented through NYC Dance Alliance, in partnership with Steps on Broadway. There will be no financial assistance or scholarships available for this Junior Intensive.

Program participants are responsible for their own travel, chaperone, housing and food. You may find deals on weekly ads for food and drinks.

There are NO mandated protocols for Winter 2023 at Steps on Broadway. Masks remain optional.

Protocols may change by December 2023. Full COVID protocol will be shared separately, based on NYC Department of Health guidance.

The NYCDA Junior Intensive will accept a limited enrollment of young dancers ages 10-13. Admittance is granted by video audition only. Entire Application process is required of ALL dancers.

All prospective NYCDA Junior Intensive students must provide the following:

  1. Completed online application form
  2. Photo or headshot
  3. One letter of recommendation from dance instructors or qualified dance professionals. Dancers that have received an invitation of automatic acceptance to this program may upload their award certificate in lieu of the recommendation letter.
  4. Video ((Video is only required of dancers not automatically accepted through an NYCDA event.) Simple in-studio cell phone video is acceptable.
  5. Copy of Birth Certificate.

All applications must be submitted via online link by November 1, 2023.

Dancers who have complete applications/videos prior to November 1 may receive early notification regarding acceptance. We encourage early applications – first come, first served – subject to availability.

All dancers with complete applications will be notified of acceptance by November 7, 2023. A wait list will be utilized.

Accepted dancers must confirm their spot with a $350 non-refundable deposit – due upon acceptance.

Full payment is due by December 1, 2023.

All audition videos must include the following:

  1. Video intro of dancer that includes name and age.
  2. Ballet (required) - Present a short adagio and a grande allegro combination demonstrating control, line, extension, jumps and turns.
  3. Jazz/Lyrical or Contemporary (required) - Present a short 1 minute solo.
  4. Tap/Hip-Hop - you may choose to present a supplementary combination, but it is not mandatory.

Maximum video length is 5 minutes.

Dancers will be divided into groups for all morning technique classes. Afternoons and evenings will consist of work sessions in diverse styles, as well as choreographic rehearsals. Industry guests and professional forums will be included.
